Amos’ prophecy of the rebuilding of the tabernacle of David is a restoration prophecy fulfilled through Messiah.

Amos 9:11-12 In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the Lord that doeth this.

David’s kingdom, which was in ruins due to the apostasy of the kings of Israel, would be rebuilt and cause the Gentiles to seek the Lord.

Acts 15:15-17
And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

The coming in of the Gentiles in the book of Acts is the fulfillment of the restoration of the tabernacle of David. David’s tabernacle (tent) represents his kingdom, his throne. Jesus, the son of David, would sit on the throne of David, and rule over his enemies. Jesus was raised from the dead to sit on this throne.

Acts 2:30-31
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

The throne of David is now a heavenly throne. The restoration is spiritual and heavenly, not worldly and earthly. Jesus sits on this throne. Jesus’ rule is heavenly and spiritual. Those who call him Lord are a part of this kingdom. Those who are born again have access to this kingdom. The kingdom of God is the restored kingdom of David.

Ezekiel 34:24-26
And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it.
And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.

Jesus is the greater David of prophecy. Those who are in the kingdom are delivered from evil beasts (demons) and enjoy peace (shalom). Believers have access to the hill of God and showers of blessing.

I hate double-minded men, but I love your law. (Psalm 119:113- NIV), literally
vain thoughts-better, “unstable persons,” literally, “divided men,” those of a divided, doubting mind (Jas 1:8); “a double-minded man”, skeptics, or, skeptical notions as opposed to the certainty of God’s word. As you can see, being double-minded is not a good thing.
Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary

These translations of Psalm 119:113 emphasize a hatred for double-mindedness:

New International Version (©1984)
I hate double-minded men, but I love your law.

New Living Translation (©2007)
I hate those with divided loyalties, but I love your instructions.

English Standard Version (©2001)
I hate the double-minded, but I love your law.

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
I hate those who are double-minded, But I love Your law.
GOD’S WORD® Translation (©1995)
I hate two-faced people, but I love your teachings.

Hatred of double-mindedness is contrasted to the love of the law (the Word). These are connected. You cannot be double-minded and love the Word at the same time. Double- mindedness will draw you away from the Word. There are many with divided loyalties.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary of Psalm 119:113 reads: vain thoughts- better, “unstable persons,” literally, “divided men,” those of a divided, doubting mind (Jas 1:8); “a double-minded man” [Hengstenberg], skeptics, or, skeptical notions as opposed to the certainty of God’s word.

We must hate double-mindedness and fall out of agreement with it. We must submit to deliverance, and this will happen if we hate it and desire to be free.

Israel’s desolation was the result of God’s judgment for covenant violations. Desolation means ruin, emptiness, bitterness, oppression, bondage, and defeat.

Isaiah 1:9
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

God’s mercy upon Israel for the sake of his covenant promises to Abraham and David would result in mercy upon a remnant. The remnant would be the group that God would restore through Messiah, and subsequently be a blessing to the world. Israel’s restoration is not present or future, but past, in the first century.

Galatians 3:8
And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

God’s promise to Abraham would be accomplished through Messiah and the remnant. The remnant were believed Jews of the first century, also called the ELECTION according to GRACE.

Romans 11:5
Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Isaiah 65:9
And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.

The rest were blinded and judged.

Romans 11:7
What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

The desolation of Israel is vividly portrayed in the Lamentations of Jeremiah.

Lamentations 1:4
The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.

Lamentations 1:13
From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.

Lamentations 1:16
For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.

Lamentations 3:11
He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.

Lamentations 4:5
They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

Lamentations 5:18
Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.

Israel’s restoration would come through Messiah’s suffering and travail. Israel would be healed (restored) through the stripes of Messiah. Israel’s restoration would result in blessing to the world.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Israel’s restoration would mean healing, comfort, salvation, redemption, blessing, light, and glory.

Isaiah 60:1-3
Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

God’s glory would come upon Israel causing the nation in darkness to come to the light.

There book of Acts records the Gentiles coming to salvation through Messiah, the light of Israel. Salvation came to Israel with the salvation of the remnant, and salvation was extended to the gentiles beginning with the salvation of Cornelius in Acts 10. The world is blessed with salvation today because of God’s salvation (restoration) of Israel.

Matthew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Repentance was an important element in the preaching of the Kingdom. Israel was commanded to repent, and later were rebuked for NOT REPENTING.

Matthew 11:20
Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

What was the relationship between repentance and the announcement of the Kingdom? Why was israel commanded to repent? The answer to this will help bring a greater understanding of the Kingdom that was at hand.

Matthew 3:2
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 3:11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

The announcement of the Kingdom really begins with the ministry of John. John is an important figure in the scheme of Israel’s redemption. he came in the spirit and power of Elijah. According to Malachi’s prophecy, Elijah would come before the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

Malachi 4:4-5
Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

The day of the Lord would be a day of Judgment. Israel is commanded to remember the law of Moses. In other words they are being called back to covenant. Judgment was about to fall upon the nation for covenant violations, or as Daniel states, “to finish the transgression, ” (Daniel 9:24). In other words, Israel’s transgressions were about to end in judgment, the fulfilling of the law, and the establishment of the New Covenant.

Those in Israel who repented would be able to ever the kingdom, and escape the coming judgment. This would be the REMNANT that would be saved according to Joel’s prophecy.

Joel 2:32
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the REMNANT whom the LORD shall call.

The New International Version calls them “survivors.” John told Israel that fire was coming. Fire represents judgment. God was about to come in fire and judgment upon the nation. He was coming in VENGEANCE for the bllod of his servants the prophets.

Matthew 3:12
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Isaiah is like a miniature Bible. The first thirty-nine chapters (like the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament) are filled with judgment upon immoral idolatrous men. Judah has sinned; the surrounding nations have sinned; the whole earth has sinned. Judgment must come, for God cannot allow such blatant sin to go unpunished forever. But the final twenty-seven chapters (like the twenty-seven books of the New Testament) declare a message of hope. The Messiah is coming as a Savior and a Sovereign to bear a cross and to wear a crown.

The Book of Isaiah is the twenty-third book of the Bible. It has 66 chapters and is authored by the prophet Isaiah. It is considered to be a mini-Bible because of it’s many similarities to the whole Bible. Contrast the fact that the whole Bible has 66 Books with the fact that Isaiah has 66 chapters. Also, the whole Bible is separated into 2 parts (the old testament books 1-39 and the new testament books 40-66) while the Book of Isaiah has two sections (chapters 1-39 and chapters 40-66). Look for the similarities between the themes of the whole Bible and the book of Isaiah as you read this book.

Isaiah’s name means “the Lord saves” and throughout this prophetic book, you will find many times the Lord saving His people after His people turned their backs on Him or after with rebellious hearts they broke the Lord’s covenant.

The challenge of Isaiah was how God would bring salvation and righteousness to the world through a rebellious and hypocritical nation. God in his wisdom would anoint his servant (Jesus- Isa.61) to preach the gospel (good news) to Israel, saving the remnant (elect), blinding the rebellious and coming in judgment (vengeance) upon the nation. He would establish a new covenant people (new creation) people through whom he would manifest his light (glory) to the nations.

The salvation of Israel would come through Messiah (Anointed One), and would result in Israel’s restoration (spiritual) which would in turn be a blessing to the world. This would begin with the ministry of John (Isa.40) which brings comfort to the remnant. The rejection of the Messiah, and his death and suffering would not stop God’s purposes from being realized. God’s purpose of salvation would be realized through this rejection, and this reveals the wisdom of God in bringing salvation to Israel (the remnant) and the world in spite of Israel’s rebellion and hypocrisy.

Isaiah is known as the Gospel prophet. In fact, some Bible expositors have called his book the “Gospel of Isaiah.”

Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

Isaiah mentions the gospel (glad tidings) of the Kingdom (rule of God coming to and through Israel’s Messiah- Christ). Isaiah is a book of salvation

Isaiah 12:2
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Isaiah 12:3
Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

Isaiah 25:9
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

Isaiah 26:1
In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks.

Isaiah 45:8
Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.

Isaiah 45:17
But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

Isaiah 46:13
I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

Isaiah 49:6
And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

Isaiah 49:8
Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

Isaiah 51:5
My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.

Isaiah 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

Isaiah 51:8
For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.

Isaiah 52:10
The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Isaiah 59:16
And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

Isaiah 59:17
For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

Isaiah 60:18
Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

Isaiah 61:10
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Isaiah 62:11
Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

Salvation is a major theme of Isaiah. This salvation would come through judgment upon Israel and restoration (the remnant). Israel would rise and shine through Messiah and bring light to the nations in darkness (Isa.60).

Isaiah expands on the gospel preached to Abraham that through Christ all the families of the earth be blessed:

Galatians 3:8
And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

It is impossible to understand the salvation of Israel without understanding the truth of the REMNANT.

Isaiah 1:9
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

God in his mercy, and in fulfillment of his covenant promises to Abraham and david, did not allow Israel to perish, but saved a remnant. The SALVATION of the REMNANT occurred in the FIRST CENTURY.

Paul quotes this prophetic word from Isaiah:

Romans 9:27
Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

The remnant was according to the election of grace during THAT TIME:

Romans 11:5
Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

The salvation of Israel was the salvation of the REMNANT.

Isaiah 37:32
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

Joel 2:32
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

The REMNANT were the FIRST CENTURY JEWS who called upon the name of the LORD. The jews who became believers during Pentecost were a part of this remnant. The remnant were saved before the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem and the end of the Old Covenant age.

The salvation of Israel was the key to salvation going to the nations (Gentiles). Israel was a light to the nations. This light was the light of Jesus the Messiah. We are saved today because salvation came to Israel. The salvation of Israel is not FUTURE but PAST. This is FULFILLMENT. This is the blessing of FULFILLMENT.

Israel was waiting for salvation, and that salvation came through Jesus the Messiah.

Isaiah 25:9
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

This salvation would come WORLD WITHOUT END (Unto the AGE OF THE AGES, the KINGDOM AGE, the CHURCH AGE- Eph.3:21)

Isaiah 45:17
But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

This salvation was the restoration of Israel, and would result in salvation going to the ends of the earth.

Isaiah 49:6
And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

This was the acceptable time that was present during Paul’s ministry:

Isaiah 49:8
Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

2 Corinthians 6:2
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

The day of salvation came. Many in israel missed it, but the remnant did not. Thank God for his salvation.

William Bell states, “In like manner, Paul said God at that time, had a remnant according to the election of grace. This means not everyone in Israel, as in the Old Covenant illustration, but a remnant was being saved by grace, not the works of the law.

For that reason, the nation had not obtained what it sought, but the elect (the remnant) obtained it and the rest of Israel were blinded, (Rom. 10:7) He then added prophecies from Deut. 29:3, 4; Isa. 29:10; Ps. 69:22,23, to speak of disobedient Israel.

Their fall of the majority in the nation, brought salvation to the Gentiles, not so the blinded could fall, but to provoke them to jealously that they might claim their own God through Christ. Thus, Paul wanted to save some of those who were his brethren according to the flesh.

Thus, Paul affirms their right to salvation as part of the remnant, if they did not continue in their unbelief. “And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.” (Rom. 11:23).

Thus, the part of the nation which God cast away came about through their own unbelief, thus, they judged themselves unworthy of everlasting life, and cast themselves away in their rejection of Christ, (Acts 13:45, 46; Rom. 10:1–3).

Hence, God created a new Israel through the gospel by transforming the nation into a spiritual one. Thus, the new nation of Israel, created through the new covenant with the house of Israel (through the call of the Gentiles) and Judah, (Heb. 8:6–12), is all Israel.”

God did not cast away his people, but saved the remnant, in fulfillment of his promises to them.

I am redeemed from the curse at MIDDAY.
I am redeemed from destruction at MIDDAY.
I will praise and pray at MIDDAY.

Deuteronomy 28:29- At midday you will grope about like a blind man in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you.

Psalm 91:6
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

Psalm 55:17
Evening, and morning, and at NOON, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

The sun will not smite me by day:

Psalm 121:6
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The sun will bless my life. My life will be fruitful:

Deut.33:13-16:
And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,
And for the PRECIOUS FRUITS BROUGHT FORTH BY THE SUN, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,
And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills,
And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.

I will not be vain or vexed under the sun:

Ecclesiastes 1:14
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

I will love and enjoy life under the sun:

Ecclesiastes 2:17
Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

I will not be oppressed under the sun, I have the Comforter, the Holy Spirit:

Ecclesiastes 4:1
So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

Herrnhut, Germany is the home of the renowned Hundred-Year-Long Prayer Meeting. In 1722, persecuted Christians from Moravia fled to Saxony and found protection in the domain of the regional Count Nicolas Ludwig von Zinzendorf.

Zinzendorf established a Christian community for oppressed religious minorities on his land. When a fleeing Moravian named Christian David showed up at his door, Zinzendorf welcomed him and invited him to invite others. A Moravian settlement was established on Count Zinzendorf’s land. When the community started to experience discord and division in 1727, Zinzendorf called them to prayer. They later named their praying community Herrnhut (Herren hut), which means “the Lord’s Watch.”

Initially, twenty-four people took one hour shifts during which they committed to pray – the Lord’s Watch. More joined the watch and this prayer watch went on unbroken until 1847. Throughout the decades hundreds attended these prayer meetings and worship services – many of the people were overwhelmed by the strong presence of God and would sing and lay prostrate on the floor for six to eight hours. The anointing touched the children and led to a revival among children.

As Moravians at Herrnhut started to sense God’s missionary call to take the good news to the lost, they would hold funerals for the missionaries before they sent them off to places like Jamaica. (We found Moravian missionary graves when we were in Jamaica a couple years ago!) Imagine holding a funeral for someone who is about to leave because it was understood that the call of Jesus was to go give your life reaching lost people and that you’d not return in this life. To reach the slaves in Jamaica, the Moravian missionaries would sell themselves into slavery as it was the only way to gain access to Caribbean slaves. Stories of supernatural visitations and provision accompany each missionary account of the Moravians.

John Wesley wrote that he was led to Christ by a Moravian missionary from Herrnhut while sailing on a ship to America. When the ship was nearly overtaken by a storm, and he and the other passengers panicked, however the Moravian fellow on the ship was calm, had peace and prayed. In his revivals Welsey often talked about the “warming heart” moment of his born-again experience with the Moravian missionary.

In the first 65 years of this Herrnhut prayer meeting 300 missionaries were sent and the modern missions movement was born. Also, equally significant, joy came back into Christian worship as the uplifting Moravian hymns were embraced by the church worldwide. (http://stevehickey.wordpress.com/2009/07/27/herrnhut-zinzendorf-and-247365-prayer/)

The greatest revival in modern history was begun in a little village what was formerly East Germany. It was a town called Herrnhut and led by Count Nicholas Von Zinzendorf. In 1727, a group of Moravians was fleeing persecution in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Germany. Zinzendorf allowed them to settle on his estate. They came and built a village they called Hernnhut which means the “Watch of the Lord”.

They were committed to see that “The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out” (Exodus 29, Leviticus 6:13). The numbers committed to this endeavor soon increased to around seventy from the community. This prayer meeting would go non-stop for over one hundred years and is seen by many as the spiritual power behind the impact the Moravians had on the world. The result was that the glory of God rested in their midst. (http://transformmi.com/archives/1640)

The bed can become your worst enemy. There are many people trapped by the bed. Sleep can be your worst enemy. Everyone needs sleep, but many sleep too much, and many are spiritually asleep. You must win the battle of the bed if you want to succeed in life. You must be able to rise and pray when necessary.

Proverbs 19:15
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

The bible talks about the dangers of slothfulness. Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep.

Matthew 26:40
And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

The disciples were sleeping when they should have been praying. The battle of the bed will translate into a lack of prayer.

Sleep can open the door for the spirit of poverty:

Proverbs 6:9-11
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Proverbs 20:13
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

Deep sleep can be the judgment of God:

Isaiah 29:10
For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

Watchmen should not be asleep:

Isaiah 56:10
His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

Sleep can open you up to temptation:

Luke 22:46
And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

1 Thessalonians 5:6
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

There is a spirit of slumber:

Romans 11:8
(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

Many look to the bed for comfort:

Job 7:13
When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaints;

Use the bed to meditate in the night watches:

Psalm 63:6
When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

David won the battle of the bed. Could this be the secret to so many of his victories?

Psalm 132:1-5
Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions:
How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

Psalm 119:62
At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

Psalm 119:148
Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.
